FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAYERS UPON LAYERS – MARCH 3-26, 2022

Sacramento, February 1, 2022 – Archival Gallery will present LAYERS UPON LAYERS, a curated ceramics show in celebration of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) regional event, March 3-26, 2022. The exhibition is guest curated by Sacramento ceramicist Shenny Cruces.

The gallery will be open for a Second Saturday Public Reception on March 12 from 5-8PM, and for a special NCECA Reception on March 18 from 5-9PM.

Layers Upon Layers includes Northern California artists Jennifer Brazelton, Gary Carlos, Shenny Cruces, Peter Harris, Tomoko Nakazato, Tiffany Schmierer, Shannon Sullivan and Sharon Virtue whose approach to building methods, and surface techniques explore how layers evoke meaning and add intricacy to their content. Working in complex and diverse ways, these artists build meaning that reflects upon their identity and experience. Northern California is one of the most ecologically and socially diverse regions in the world. This abundant fertile ground of visually complex natural and social landscapes is reflected in the conceptual and aesthetic ethos of the artists included in Layers Upon Layers. Each artist conceptualizes their artwork using complex layers of building technique, glaze surfaces, or post firing work. Their visual goals seem to strive for a more multivalent, abundant and verdant aesthetic.

Gallery visitors are welcome during normal business hours with no appointment needed, and must wear a mask or face covering when indoors for the safety of staff and guests.
