Sacramento’s Second Saturday

Second Saturday in Sacramento is an art walk occurring in the evenings on the second Saturday of each month. This monthly art celebration includes music, gallery receptions, adult refreshments, open artist studios, and special events at Sacramento-area restaurants and businesses.

The History of Second Saturday

The Second Saturday Art Walk was originally created in Sacramento by Michael Himovitz (deceased), Chuck Miller (deceased), D. Oldham Neath (current owner of Archival Gallery), Sheri Watson (current owner of Raven’s Corner), and Judith Weintraub (deceased).

The idea was borrowed from Seattle’s “Second Thursday” and patterned after a city-wide show called Introductions. For several years, Archival Framing (now Archival Gallery) created and published a map of galleries that were open for this new art walk.

After the first five years a downtown partnership became involved and the Gallery Association was created. Second Saturday has continued to evolve into the monthly art celebration we enjoy today.

The event is generally referred to as “Second Saturday” however there remain references from prior years using numeric styling as “2nd Saturday” or “2nd Saturday Art Walk.”
